You never know when the fish-and-chips craving will hit, but in Schaumburg, the answer is always a little weird and wonderful. One night you’re at a polished steakhouse like Perry’s, where the Friday lunch pork chop steals the show, and the next you’re at a karaoke bar like The Hideout, hoping the cod survives the sing-along.

That’s the range here, from a sushi joint’s surprisingly crisp off-menu fried fish to a game-show venue where host Abby outshines the batter. Strap in.

Solid Tuesday night choice

I slipped into Westwood Tavern & Tap on a Tuesday night, and the place felt like a well-kept secret just before the rush. The bartenders were attentive in that easy, no-pressure way that makes you want to order another round. I went for the fish and chips, and while the sports bar vibe might not scream 'seafood shrine,' the batter was crisp and the fish flaked nicely. The fresh guacamole and salad on the side were a welcome surprise, adding a bright counterpoint to the fried goodness. It's quality sports bar grub, plain and simple. If you're chasing a relaxed weeknight pint with solid eats, this works. I'd happily return.

Opolska Restaurant feels like stepping into a Polish grandmother's kitchen, if that grandmother also happened to run a cozy upscale bar. The fish and chips here aren't the star, but they're a worthy supporting player next to the authentic home cooking. My companion ordered the beef goulash, rich and tender, while I marveled at the crispy potato pancakes done exactly right. Portions are generous and beautifully presented, which always earns a nod in my book. The full bar adds a festive glow to the warm room. It's not the most traditional spot for fried cod, but the quality and heart make it a memorable stop.

Dog friendly and welcoming
Great location worth repeating

Shuffle's West is the kind of place where the bartender remembers your name, your drink, and your dog's name within five minutes. The space is clean, comfortable, and blissfully relaxing, with enough TVs to catch every game without feeling overwhelmed. My fish and chips arrived hot, with a golden crust that shattered nicely and a flaky interior. The full bar pours excellent drinks, and the staff are friendly and attentive without hovering. They even brought a water bowl for my pup, which sealed the deal. This is a great location worth repeating, especially for a laid-back afternoon. I left already planning my return.

Classy service, memorable meal

Perry's Steakhouse & Grille on a Friday lunch is a serious affair, and I mean that in the best way. The fish and chips here are an afterthought to the massive portions of pork chop that my table ordered, but I had to try them anyway. The fish was respectable, but let's be honest: you come for the chops, which are worth every bite. The crème brûlée was smooth and rich, a proper finish. Service felt classy and polished, the kind that anticipates your needs before you ask. It's a memorable meal, though your wallet might wince. Still, for a celebratory fried fish fix, this place delivers with style.

Worth the return trip

Granite City Food & Brewery surprised me, and I don't say that lightly. I walked in expecting standard brewpub fare, but the fish and chips were a pleasant surprise: generous, fresh, and reasonably priced. The beer-battered cod had a nice chew and the fries were properly seasoned. Then Dean, our server, elevated the whole experience with standout service, checking in just enough and cracking a joke that landed. The room was spotless, welcoming, and hummed with easy conversation. For a spot that could easily coast, they're putting in real effort. That alone makes it worth the return trip. I'm already thinking about my next visit.

Unforgettable nights with karaoke energy
Friendly crowds and lively singalongs

A welcoming spot for visitors

The Hideout is not where I'd usually hunt for fish and chips, but the karaoke energy makes everything taste better. I wandered in on a Saturday night and found a crowd singing along to every chorus, all of them friendly and welcoming to a stranger. The wings and drinks were great, as advertised, and I ordered the fish as a curiosity. It came out crispy, no complaints. The batter was a touch oily, but the lively sing-alongs on stage distracted me from any minor flaw. It's a welcoming spot for visitors, especially if you're brave enough to grab the mic. I wasn't, but I enjoyed eavesdropping on those who were.

Chicago Prime Italian Steakhouse is a mouthful of a name, and the experience matches the ambition. I came for steak and lobster, but the fish and chips were a surprising stand-in. The calamari and crab cakes were incredible, and the warm, welcoming service never missed a beat. When my fish arrived, it was delicate and well-executed, though a bit refined for classic British fare. The waitstaff were attentive and knowledgeable, offering suggestions without being pushy. It's a splurge, but worth returning with friends who appreciate quality. Honestly, the fish and chips are just an excuse to bask in the glow of this place. I left impressed and full.

Fun for all ages

Perfect birthday celebration spot
Great for group laughter

Great Big Game Show Schaumburg is not a restaurant, so you'd think I'd have nothing to review. But they serve food, and my fish and chips were surprisingly solid for a venue where the real show is the laughter. Host Abby shines bright, keeping the energy high as the hour flies by faster than you'd expect. I ordered the fried cod to fuel up between trivia rounds, and it did the job: crunchy, hot, and satisfying. The space is fun for all ages, and our group of six couldn't stop laughing. It's a perfect birthday celebration spot, though you might want to share the basket. Just don't blame me if you miss the correct answer because you're chewing.

Tender calamari, perfect seabass
Friendly staff, fast service
Great birthday celebration spot
Decent portions, tasty martinis
Lively live entertainment nightly

Chicago Prime Steakhouse (the one without the Italian in the name) turned out to be a delightful surprise for fish and chips. The calamari was tender, and my companion's seabass was perfect, but my fried cod was the quiet champion. The batter was light and flaky, and the portions were decent, especially for the price. The staff moved fast but never felt rushed, and the martinis were tasty enough to make me order a second. Live entertainment added a lively buzz to the room, making it feel like a birthday party even when it wasn't mine. I'd come back just for the friendly faces and that fish. It's a solid addition to the Schaumburg fish-and-chip map.

Delicious food, huge drinks
Timeless ambience for lounging
Positive, attentive service
Great spot to relax

Shuffle's East, the sibling to West, has its own charm that feels timeless. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and the drinks come in sizes that could double as fishbowls. My fish and chips arrived with a golden, beer-battered crust that crackled nicely, and the fries were thick and satisfying. The ambience invites lounging, with comfortable booths and just enough noise to feel alive without overwhelming conversation. Service was positive and attentive, checking in at the right moments. It's a great spot to relax after work, or honestly, any time. I left with a full belly and a relaxed mind. This place earns its repeat visits.

Superior quality over local competitors
Great all-you-can-eat value
Easy plaza parking access

Sushi Tsuki isn't where you'd expect to find fish and chips, but I gave it a shot, and the results were better than I predicted. The sushi presentation is fresh and beautiful, clearly superior to local competitors, but the fried cod was a fun off-menu experiment. It came out crispy and light, as if the chef wanted to prove they could do Western classics too. The all-you-can-eat value is tempting, though I was too full to take full advantage. Service was friendly and attentive, and parking in the plaza is a breeze. If you're craving fried fish and then a cheeky roll, this place has you covered. Just pace yourself.

Helpful with meal replacements
Great gyros, perfectly cooked meat
Laid-back, inviting local spot

Brandy's Gyros is the unassuming local spot where the staff greet you like a regular on day one. I ordered the fish and chips out of curiosity, and while the gyros are clearly the star, the fried cod held its own with a sturdy crunch. They were even helpful when I needed a meal replacement, swapping items without a fuss. The outdoor seating is perfect for a nice day, and the atmosphere is laid-back and inviting. It's the kind of place where you can linger over coffee and watch the world go by. The meat on the gyros was perfectly cooked, too. I'll be back, probably for both.
